Talleres to pick up a point in Rosario
Newell’s Old Boys players Bruno Bianchi, Luciano Pocrnjic and Hernan Bernardello are still recovering from their muscle issues and will miss out. Brian Sarmiento is a long-term absentee.
Meanwhile, Talleres centre back Javier Gandolfi will miss at least one more game with muscle issues. The rest of the squad are available as Lucas Olaza returns from suspension and Matias Pisano has overcome an ankle injury.

Joaquin Varela’s strike in the 94th minute allowed Newell’s Old Boys to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw on their visit to Atletico Tucuman last time out. The result stopped their five-game losing run on away turf for La Lepra. The team have claimed seven points from 12 available under boss Omar De Felippe and have now increased their tally to 21 points. At home, they are on three matches without defeat, having won two of them. Newell’s lost 3-0 at Brazil’s Atletico Paranaense on Thursday, in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana’s first round.
Talleres succumbed to their second consecutive defeat last Sunday when losing to Independiente 2-0 at home. They will have been disappointed with that outcome after missing several goalscoring chances in the game. The team are now sitting in fourth spot on 41 points, which would still be enough to qualify for the next Copa Libertadores. Talleres lost their last away game to Boca Juniors after eight encounters without defeat on the road.
Newell’s have become strong at home and Talleres are tough to beat when they travel. This will end in a draw. I think Newell’s Old Boys on the +1 market is the safest outcome here.
Newell’s Old Boys have netted six goals in their last five home matches (or 1.2 on average) while Talleres have scored seven in their last seven games on the road. I’ll back a low-scoring draw.
Talleres have claimed three victories and a draw in the last four competitive meetings, with two of the last three taking place in the Copa Argentina. However, Newell’s Old Boys are on 12 home games without defeat, having won ten of them.
