San Lorenzo to recover from heavy blow
Velez Sarsfield coach Gabriel Heinze will welcome back Luis Abram as the defender has served his one-week suspension and is available.
San Lorenzo left back Gabriel Rojas played in the Copa Sudamericana fixture on Wednesday after overcoming his muscle issues. Key player Fernando Belluschi is still a doubt but Paulo Diaz returns from suspension. Centre back Matias Caruzzo is a doubt.
Velez Sarsfield

Doubtful: None
Injured/unavailable: Lautaro Giannetti (knee ligament rupture), Jesus Mendez (muscle)
San Lorenzo
Suspended: None
Doubtful: Fernando Belluschi (knee), Matias Caruzzo (clavicle), Marcos Angeleri (ankle)

Velez Sarsfield’s away match at Colon last weekend was abandoned in the 22nd minute; the score was 0-0 at the time. Velez are yet to secure their top-flight status, but on paper, this should be doable, with Gabriel Heinze’s men remaining on 24 points after four matches without a success. At home, they have celebrated four wins and suffered four defeats, in a total of ten matches played at the Jose Amalfitani Stadium this season.
San Lorenzo’s three-game winning streak in the Superliga was broken last Sunday when the team were thrashed by Godoy Cruz 5-0. That result also stopped a positive run of five games without defeat in the league. El Ciclon have fallen into third spot on 42 points and still have to secure their Copa Libertadores ticket. Claudio Biaggio’s men have claimed seven points from the last nine available on away turf. On Wednesday, they won 1-0 against Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro at home in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana’s first round.
Even though San Lorenzo were victims of a devastating rout in the last round, I still think they are the better side here. Away win. I will go with San Lorenzo on the +1 market.
San Lorenzo are one of the best first-half squads in the league, having registered nine victories and eight draws at half time. Velez Sarsfield are bottom in the first-half table, with just three victories after 45 minutes this season. The visitors should be ahead at the interval.
San Lorenzo are on four consecutive victories over Velez Sarsfield. On away turf, they haven’t lost any of the last four, with two wins and two draws.
